Adele Hendrix, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Adele Hendrix grew up in Champaign, Illinois, and decided she wanted to be a veterinarian after going to the University of Illinois Veterinary Open Houses as a little girl, though she took a bit of an unusual path to reach that goal. After finishing her undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois, Dr. Hendrix graduated from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctorate and then practiced law in Madison, Wisconsin. She then returned to school and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin. After that, she spent 18 years practicing veterinary medicine in Georgia in the greater Atlanta area. Additionally during this time she wrote articles and gave presentations on legal issues facing veterinarians and also wrote a series of articles on common feline diseases for a veterinary health company in Germany.

In 2011 Dr. Hendrix moved back to her home state with her husband and her two daughters and most recently has been practicing veterinary medicine in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Her recent volunteer work includes participating in a spay/neuter/vaccination clinic for the Pueblo of Laguna in New Mexico.

Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, her special interests include dermatology, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and pain management and she loves learning and staying current on all that is new in veterinary medicine. However, her favorite part of her job is developing lasting relationships with her patients and their families so she can work with families to provide each individual patient the exceptional, individualized care they deserve.

Dr. Hendrix currently lives in Northfield, Illinois, with her husband, Jerry, their little poodle-terrier mix, Bronx, their old “grandpa-cat,” Einstein, and their young, naughty cat, Poppins. In her spare time Dr. Hendrix enjoys travel, swimming, water-skiing, scuba-diving, reading, tennis and baking. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA).
